A Coaching Approach: The Secret To A More Successful Working World

This week, I launched my brand new podcast, Human Wise, which explores the commercial advantage of being human at work.

The pilot and first episode are available here.

Why Human Wise?

Human Wise will explore topics that are increasingly relevant to today’s business leaders. This is a conversation that seeks to discuss practical ways to embrace individuals for who they are and what it means to put the human at the heart of work.

Through my coaching work, I discovered that the skills I learned as a coach are equally important not just for leadership, but for building trusted client relationships. Developing business, whatever field you are in, requires empathy, connection and care – and this means that being HUMAN matters.

Showing the right intention towards your clients is at the centre of coaching – and must also be at the centre of business creation by focusing on:

  • How you show up

  • Understanding yourself and others (your strengths, their goals)

  • Creating the right Mindset to operate at your best

  • Developing skills to Activate & Adapt through business relationships

  • Navigating the Next Steps to move forward in whatever direction they may take you.

The sweet spot

Whatever your chosen area of expertise, there is a common thread that requires humanity, humility, and resilience, to navigate and lead your way through highs and the lows that present themselves on a daily basis.

Despite the increase in literature around EQ at work, the importance of diversity and inclusion, and the rise of coaching as a leadership skill, I regularly hear from people frustrated by corporate systems designed for days gone by.

Rather than embracing individuality and innovation, I witness people through my coaching work who are stuck, fearing failure and fighting for fairness. We know that focusing on the human is the right thing to do, but many businesses still struggle with execution. They might talk the talk, but this isn’t translating into healthy systems, processes and attitudes across the board.

We’ll look at how to balance what is right from a people perspective with the business demands, deadlines and the competitive nature of the world today. We will also look at what it means to bring the best of yourself to work whatever you do, navigating those sticky systems, promotion pathways and constant change. You might be working in a role where sales and business development is important, or perhaps preparing to take on greater leadership responsibility.

The Human Wise podcast will shine a light on the sweet spot where a coaching approach and commercial focus can co-exist to build a more human working world, both with teams and with clients.

That means a working world that emphasises:

  • Empathy

  • Connection

  • Care

A commercial imperative

Our confidence and resilience are central to focusing on ourselves as authentic leaders. Human Wise will explore  how we can build self-confidence at work to lead and adapt through uncertainty. We’ll evidence the increasing importance of the human touch in a world where AI is rapidly evolving and hybrid working has brought new opportunities and challenges for connection and collaboration.

This podcast is for anyone seeking to develop their career in a commercial setting. It is for leaders who are looking to create a culture and environment for their people to thrive. By initiating this conversation, we can learn what really matters – to clients, to employees and to leaders – so that together we can create a blueprint for building better business for all.

We will hear from business leaders as well as meeting people on the ground looking to develop their careers. I am lucky to have a fantastic network of other expert coaches and advisors who have been kind enough to join me on the show, to unpick how coaching skills can be applied to conversations with teams and clients to create a culture of learning, trust, and client centricity.

There is now a commercial imperative to focusing on the human side of business – it's as simple as that. Organisations will struggle to win clients, or hold onto talent, if the human aspects of business are ignored. Being human and commercially successful is the route to better business for all – and now is the time to really understand what it means to put this into practice.

So, if you're ready to find out how you can make The Human Advantage your commercial advantage, join us for the upcoming series of Human Wise, the podcast that explores the commercial advantage of being human at work.
